Blackface without the paint? Mattress Mack’s latest ads causing concern among Black Houstonians
Often when it comes to certain trending topics on social media, we sometimes keep things light and humorous, like asking “what in the heezy is going on?”
But in this case, no laughs are solicited because whoever told Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale that his latest commercials are a hit, they might want to check social media because Black Twitter is calling him out for what is deemed as being the most culturally insensitive mockery of the hip hop culture.
The latest ad for Gallery Furniture, owned by McIngvale, has traded in Mack’s signature phrase of “save you money” for a video showing him sipping out of a white styrofoam cup loaded with Sprite and Jolly Ranchers candy.
For the “purple stuff” sippers, no explanation needed. For those not familiar with what this appears to be implying, well….go look it up.

It should also be noted that he is wearing a purple puffer jacket with a purple bandanna wrapped around his forehead.
Mack gives shout outs to some of H-Town’s rap legends like Lil’ KeKe, Slim Thugga, Chamillionaire and the late great Pimp C while he tells potential customers not to worry about their “fu**ed up credit” and to come see him on the “Nawf side.”

We’ve always loved ya’ Mack and we get it, you’re rich and can do what you want to do – but take a look at the comments, popular opinion is saying this is knocking on the door of Blackface.
