Covid-19 has changed the way Americans work for the past year and a half. When the virus first picked up in March 2020, many people began working from home, and after so long of being remote, anxiety is higher than ever. Here are five ways to mentally prepare to transition back into office life.

Wake up earlier

With the ability to avoid commutes, many of us have gotten used to sleeping in. Try waking up earlier to get back into your pre-pandemic routine. Starting this transition sooner than later will give you more time to adjust to the change.

Prepare your things the night before

You’ll want to make your mornings as easy as possible as you get ready to return to work. It is best to prepare at night if you pack lunches, snacks, coffee, etc.

Prioritize your mental health

Many Americans are still fearful about being out in public and that is ok. Make sure to manage your stress and anxiety levels throughout your transition. Participate in stress-relieving activities like running or meditation.

Review Covid-19 protocols at work

Everything won’t be 100% the same as when we left the office. It is important to learn and stay up to date on new procedures and protocols your job may have.

Communicate with co-workers

Building transparency and a strong sense of communication with team leaders or other co-workers can make the transition easier. If you’re in a leadership position, be sure to effectively communicate your expectations and ensure that everyone is on the same page. If you’re not in a leadership role, communicate with your managers and co-workers about your expectations as well.
