The Alvin Community College Softball and Baseball squads look to build on their records from the last season as they kick off the 2024 Spring campaign.

Head coach Jerri Torres-Farmer said his squad has made vast improvements in timely hitting and making big plays, both of which have improved team chemistry. The team posted a 22-26 record in 2023.

“We have a lot of talent on this team but we are pretty young,” she said. “Gaining confidence as the season goes on will be key to a successful season.”

While the Lady Dolphins are likely to play well on the field, they are also performing well academically, with most of the squad posting a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

“One of our greatest accomplishments is being successful in the classroom as well as on the field,” Torres-Farmer said.

The women’s Softball team will start its season against Butler Community College on January 26 in the Galveston Invitational Tournament. The first home game will be Feb. 10 against Hill College.

Head coach Jason Schreiber said the squad will consist of players donning a Dolphin uniform for the first time. After a 29-25 season last year, the Baseball squad looks to make improvements in their performance.

“This year’s lineup will be mostly new faces, but we are excited about what this offense has the ability to do,” he said. “The design of this offense is to use speed mixed with power with the ability to put the ball in play and grind out competitive plate appearances.”

The team does have some returning pitchers, including Dylan Dudney, Kike Cienfuegos, Angel Acosta, Reagan Weiblinger, and Seth Davis. There will be also be some experienced transfer players, Schreiber said.

“We have plenty of transfers from four-year schools that will have a huge impact for this year’s club,” he said. “I am looking forward to watching this team grow and develop throughout the season.”

The Baseball team will start its season on Feb. 3 at home against Midland College in San Antonio. Their first home game will be against Navarro College on Feb. 11.
