Atlas Restaurant Group, the hospitality group behind Marmo and Loch Bar is preparing to add a new concept to its portfolio—Azumi, will be a modern Japanese dining concept opening in Houston’s sought-after River Oaks District. Opening in Spring 2023, Azumi Houston will be located at 4444 Westheimer Road, Azumi will sit at the southern gateway to Houston’s chic dining and shopping destination adjacent to bustling sister restaurant Loch Bar. Azumi, a feminine name translating to “safe harbor”, aptly defines a venue high on style, comfort, and warmth. Patrick Sutton has been tapped to reimagine the former Ouzo Bay space, interjecting an elegance and tranquility that honors Japanese aesthetics. Inside, the interior space will accommodate 130 guests between a chic main dining room, sushi bar, and omakase tasting room. Unifying the interior and exterior the dramatic, indoor/outdoor main bar will open to a terrace seating an additional 78 diners.

Alexanda Pena and Aaron Bludorn

In early 2024, acclaimed Chef Aaron Bludorn is gearing up to introduce his third restaurant concept, Bar Bludorn, alongside his business partners – wife Victoria Pappas Bludorn and Cherif Mbodji. This new venture led by in-house talent and rising chef Alexandra Pena is nestled in Hedwig Village in Houston’s Memorial area. It will occupy a discreet 4,900-square-foot space just off I-10. Drawing inspiration from the bustling bar at Bludorn, the eponymous Allen Parkway corridor hotspot spotlighting French-inspired Gulf Coast cuisine, Bar Bludorn is set to be a classic, upscale tavern that will welcome guests daily for lunch, dinner and cocktail service.

Blossom Houston, the premier hotel in the heart of Houston’s medical center, is launching their first restaurant concept in early 2024. MoLiHua, meaning ‘jasmine’ in Chinese, will be led by Michelin-Starred Chef Ho Chee Boon (Empress by Boon) and will serve sushi, dim sum and dessert offerings in a stunning space on the second floor of the luxury hotel. This is one of three concepts Chef Boon will be launching in the 16-story boutique luxury hotel.

On the heels of their recent successful opening in Bellaire, popular Round-Top based Mandito’s Tex-Mex from premier hospitality group, Palacios Murphy, is set to open their third location in Katy in early 2024. The 4,629-square-foot cantina-style restaurant will feature the same scratch-made menu as their Bellaire location including popular items like tacos al carbon, fajitas, grilled seafood dishes, and their World-Famous Burrito Bowl. Mandito’s Tex-Mex also boasts an extensive cocktail menu with house made syrups and juices. The new Katy location will feature a larger to-go station where diners can order to-go meals including their popular family-friendly bulk fiesta packs and an expansive patio overlooking a green space.

GAP Concepts, founded by several members of Dallas’ wildly successful XOXO Dining Room, is preparing to paint Houston’s Upper Kirby District pink with its newest concept, PostScript HTX. Entrepreneurs Veeral Rathod and Obi Ibeto are anticipating a January 2023 debut in the Shops at Arrive River Oaks, 2800 Kirby Drive, for the flirty and festive restaurant and lounge. Chef Bryan Caswell will be leading the kitchen, complemented by a thoughtful and expansive cocktail and champagne program including a ‘Press for Champagne’ doorbell.

Houston’s beloved Barbecue joint, the Pit Room is heading west with the opening of their second location at 10,301 Katy Freeway in Memorial City. Slated to open in spring of 2024, the new location is going big with an expansive 2,610 square-foot patio, larger kitchen, and more food, including a homemade sausage grinding station, an ice cream sandwich bar, plus the tender Central Texas-style barbecue they are known for.
