The Houston County Sheriff’s Office and Houston SPCA worked together to rescue 16 emaciated dogs on a property on CR1835 in Crockett, Texas after they were abandoned by their owner two weeks prior.

Officials with HCSO reached out to Houston SPCA for help with all the animals.

The dogs were taken to the Houston SPCA’s animal hospital where they received individualized veterinary care by staff before going into the Foster Family program for healing.

Officials at the scene said the dogs’ owner surrendered all the animals to the custody of the Houston SPCA. Animal cruelty is a felony in Texas, punishable up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
