A 10-week-old puppy rescued by the Houston SPCA after she was found extremely lethargic, emaciated and suffering from parasites is alive today thanks to the help from another rescued dog in their care through a lifesaving blood transfusion at their animal medical center.

Dr. Rebecca Shipley, a Houston SPCA veterinarian, and several other veterinary staff were able to transfer blood from Browny, a 5-year-old Labrador retriever, to save the Australian cattle dog mix’s life.

The puppy, now named Precious, no longer has a heart murmur since the transfusion. She will remain in the Houston SPCA’s care until she is ready for the adoption program in a week or two.
