Are you ready for some SWAC/HBCU football? Longtime Houston Sportscaster Butch Alsandor is!  He is entering his third season as PxP man for SWAC football on the ESPN Family of Networks.

If you’ve been in and around the Greater Houston area for a minute, you probably remember Butch from his days at KHOU, Channel 11 News.  He spent 20 years covering the Houston sports scene before leaving the CBS affiliate in March of 2013. He has also been a fixture at Texas Southern University, handling PxP duties for football and basketball games on AT&T SportsNet.

“I am really pumped about the upcoming SWAC football season! The league has been extremely competitive the last two years and we expect that to continue,” Butch said.

He’s also excited about the number of head coaches with NFL backgrounds bringing their talents, experience and swagger to the SWAC.

“Former NFL players like Dieon Sanders,(Jackson St) Eddie Robinson, (Alabama St) Bubba McDowell, (Prairie View) plus Hue Jackson (Grambling) will definitely add some star power and a few new wrinkles to the league,” he said.

Joining Butch in the booth will be college football analyst Jorge Vargas. They will open the season by calling the annual Labor Day Classic between Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M on September 3rd at PVAMU.
