713 Day is the ‘unofficial’ holiday named after Houston’s oldest area code. On July 13, die-hards celebrate all things Houston, including arts, culture, entertainment and more. We’ve rounded up some of the best things to do to show your love for H-Town. (List will be updated as more rolls in. Check back periodically.)

Celebrate 713 Day at the Ion as the innovation and community hub hosts a fireside chat with the G-Unity Foundation team from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. regarding its partnership with Houston Independent School District at the Ion’s Prototyping Lab. The fireside chat will include a short documentary film and will conclude with a networking happy hour showcasing local brews served by Second Draught, local bites served by Stuff’d Wings, and a DJ spinning local beats.

On 713 Day, celebrate your Houston roots at Roots, a self-serve wine bar in Houston’s East End offering 56 wines on tap. Roots’ name and location pay homage to co-owner Lori Hernandez’ upbringing in the East End neighborhood. Roots’ automated wine dispensing machines allow guests to sample one-, three- and five-ounce pours before committing to a full glass. Top off your experience with a skillfully curated menu of New American, farm-to-table food items from Executive Chef Andre Garza.

This year, 713 Day falls on a Wednesday, and you’re in luck, because every Wednesday, Phil & Derek’s has LIVE music and APOLLO NIGHT! The hot spot has been serving Houston great music and great food since 2008. Inconspicuously located in bustling Midtown Houston, the restaurant and jazz bar is a laid-back atmosphere where the ambiance is reminiscent of the comfort of your own living room, coupled with the flare and glitz from its nightly cabaret-style entertainment, and on various nights, P&D’s “Speak Easy Comedy Lounge” brings in some of the funniest local and national comedians.
