This is the show the Black community has been waiting for. If you haven’t started watching the breakout comedy Abbott Elementary, start now! Gone are the violence, drugs, police brutality, and hyper sexuality – themes most commonly used to depict Black people on screen, often with white creators.

Quinta Brunson’s light-hearted comedy Abbott Elementary has been making noise on social media since its pilot episode. The comedy centers around a determined second grade teacher, Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson), who navigates teaching students in a low-income school along with other passionate teachers and a tone-deaf principal.

The announcement of the show’s renewal came from Principal Coleman’s (Janelle James) desk.

“The camera crew I’ve hired to showcase all that I’ve made happen at our beautiful school thinks I’m a star. I mean, are we surprised? No, we’re not 🙂 With that said, it is with great pleasure that I share they’ll be returning for the 2022-2023 school year! That’s right – Abbott Elementary Season Two is coming to a screen near you.”

The show has used its popularity to support actual teachers and students in low-income schools by partnering with Scholastic to provide free book fairs.
