Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he has now tested negative for COVID-19, just four days after testing positive.

The Republican governor posted a video saying his infection was brief and mild because of the vaccination that he received, then encouraged others to get vaccinated.

We all know that Abbott has been ignoring calls from other officials to reinstate mask mandates as the highly contagious delta variant surges in Texas.

The 63-year-old governor tested positive for the virus a day after appearing indoors near Dallas without a mask while speaking to a crowded room of GOP supporters, most of whom were older and also unmasked.

And another Republican official, U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls, announced over the weekend that he, too, tested positive for COVID 19 despite being fully vaccinated.

Nehls, the former sheriff of Fort Bend County who was elected to Congress last year, posted a statement on Twitter stating, “All Americans are free to make their own health decisions, but I strongly encourage getting vaccinated. It is scientifically proven to drastically reduce the risk of severe illness & death from COVID.”

Hospitalizations in Texas of COVID-19 patients have reached levels not seen since January, with over 13,000 people hospitalized as of Saturday.

So since we have proof that fully vaccinated people can still catch COVID, why won’t our governor do the right thing and put a mask mandate in place?
