After nearly three decades of false alarms surrounding a sequel to the cult classic Hocus Pocus, Disney confirmed on Thursday that Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere in Fall 2022.

What’s even more exciting about the sequel is that it will star the original Sanderson Sisters, played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy.

When three young women accidentally revive the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem, they must figure out how to stop the witches from unleashing destruction on the world.

Production is expected to begin this fall and will debut exclusively on Disney Plus. Though filmmaker Adam Shankman was announced as the director for Hocus Pocus 2, he will be shifting his attention to Disenchanted, the sequel to Enchanted, for Disney studios.

Shankman’s long-time friend and film partner Anne Fletcher will take the role of director.

“As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney Plus due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work,” said Shankman.

Fletcher’s resume includes The Proposal27 Dresses, and the dance film Step Up.
