The city of Houston is feeling a major loss after one of its greatest talents was killed by a drunk driver Wednesday.

Known as Houston’s R&B Princess, 19-year-old JaeRene was riding high on the success of her debut album in 2019, which has been released in over 76 countries nationwide.

According to her gofund me page, “In the early hours of the morning on April 7, 2021, Jaelyn “JaeRene” Chapman was involved in a fatal car accident in Houston, Texas at the hands of a highly intoxicated driver.”

Jae’s management team released a statement that read, in part,  “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the tragic passing of our vibrant Jaelyn “JaeRene” Chapman. We will always remember Jae’s smile, love for her music, talents, community involvement, bubbly personality, and huge heart. During this time, we ask that you keep her family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers. She will truly be missed by all of us. In the coming days, we will release additional information on how you can pay your respects to our beloved JaeRene.”

A candlelight vigil will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Raven Tower located at 310 North Street.

Our prayers go out to her family, friends and fans.
