From creating a more resilient and stronger city following seven federally declared disasters to focusing on underserved and under-resourced neighborhoods as part of the Complete Communities initiative and providing earn and learn opportunities for thousands of young people participating in the Hire Houston Youth program, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has a lot to be proud of for his time in office.

Turner sent a heartfelt “thank you” to the residents he served, reflecting on his time leading the 4th largest city in the nation.

“THANK YOU, HOUSTON.

“Being your mayor for the past eight years has been a privilege and a joy of a lifetime. I enjoyed meeting people and creating lasting relationships throughout our diverse neighborhoods.

“As I prepare to leave office when the clock strikes midnight, I am reflecting on everything we were able to accomplish together.

“Houston became a national model in the fight against homelessness , we built more affordable housing and lowered the crime through the One Safe Houston initiative.

“I thank Houstonians for giving me, a kid who grew up in Acres Homes, a chance to transform our Houston for the better. On this final day of 2023, my desk inside City Hall is now clear.”
