Teyana Taylor may be one of the most underrated talents out there, but there is no denying her acting skills in the new film “A Thousand and One.”
The trailer for her new movie was recently released and it looks to be Taylor’s best work so far.
In the film, Taylor plays a young mother who is released from prison and makes the hard decision to kidnap her son from the foster care system after she finds out that he is being abused.
Taylor shows a depth of emotion and vulnerability in the role that follows her character as she navigates the hardships of being a single mother in Harlem, New York from the early 90s to the late 2000s.
Critics are calling the film “A love letter to mothers, sons, and hustlers of NYC,” and it has already won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Taylor’s fans will be able to catch the film in theatres on March 28 and will be able to stream it on March 31.
I watched “A Thousand And One” the other night and it’s still on my mind. It takes you on a deeply emotional and moving multi-year story between a mother and son, and a changing city landscape, that is full of heart and soul. A Thousand and One is storytelling excellence. It is a dedication to Harlem and black life in the mid 90’s to the mid noughties.
Teyana Taylor was born and raised to play this role. This performance is award worthy, one that will hug your heart.

Teyana Taylor is a captivating force delivering a rich performance in A Thousand and One. A.V. Rockwell uses a mother/son relationship as a lens into a lived in economic and parental struggle of 90s New York City. The lengths we go to create a better future for our loved ones. pic.twitter.com/fSEX7hNAOY
