It has been 10 months, but Houston police have tracked down the suspect they feel is responsible for the death of popular Memphis rapper Snootie Wild.

Ivory Duke Williams has been charged with murder.

On Feb. 25, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 2 a.m. in the 4200 block of Alice Street. They arrived to find a man in a ditch suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, later identified as LePreston Porter, 36, was transported to a local hospital, where he died the following day.

Porter was a famed rapper who went by the name of Snootie Wild.

His death sent shock waves through the entertainment and hip hop communities, and the details of his fatal shooting left many puzzled.

During the preliminary investigation, a woman told police her vehicle had gotten stuck in a ditch and several unknown people attempted to assist her.

She said, at that point, Porter walked up and pointed a gun at her.

The woman said she ran away and then heard gunshots. She said she wasn’t aware who had been shot.

The woman called 9-1-1 and said the unknown suspects fled in a dark-colored sedan.

Further investigation identified Williams as the suspect in the case. HPD SWAT officers arrested Williams on Wednesday without incident.
