Not much can break the spirit of a strong Black woman. While many are not sure if it is too soon for her, emotionally, but Brittney Griner announced Friday that she is returning to play for WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season.

“It feels so good to be home! The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn. I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help,” @brittneyyevettegriner wrote on Instagram.

She went on to thank everyone who advocated for her, including her wife, family, her team at Wasserman, the Phoenix Mercury and entire WNBA family, and, of course, the Biden-Harris Administration.

She also took a moment to specifically note those who were left behind.

“President Biden, you brought me home and I know you are committed to bringing Paul Whelan and all Americans home too. I will use my platform to do whatever I can to help you. I also encourage everyone that played a part in bringing me home to continue their efforts to bring all Americans home. Every family deserves to be whole,” Griner posted.

She then announced what everyone has been waiting to hear: she WILL be back on the court.

“I also want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon.”

As we send her our sincere well wishes and congrats as she is now back home in time to celebrate the holidays with her family, we want to tell her to take as many breaks as she needs for her mental health.

B.G., you have nothing to prove. Don’t rush yourself, take some time to reflect and breathe and, although we know you love the game of basketball, give yourself permission to get some much-needed rest. The court will still be there with your name on it if whenever you are ready.

We love ya!
