President Donald Trump announced that he will not be attending the 59th annual inauguration.

The president announced the news via Twitter early Friday morning.

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” Trump wrote.

This new update comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a statement calling for a resignation from the president. If the president does not resign, Pelosi has shared that Democrats will try to impeach the president for a second time.

“This morning, we placed a call to Vice President Pence to urge him to invoke the 25th Amendment which would allow the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet to remove the President for his incitement of insurrection and the danger he still poses.  We have not yet heard back from the Vice President. The President’s dangerous and seditious acts necessitate his immediate removal from office.  We look forward to hearing from the Vice President as soon as possible and to receiving a positive answer as to whether he and the Cabinet will honor their oath to the Constitution and the American people,” the statement reads.

Pence has yet to acknowledge if he will honor the 25th Amendment to remove the president, but he did release a statement addressing the Capitol Hill riots on Thursday.

“Peaceful protest is the right of every American but this attack on our Capitol will not be tolerated and those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Pence said.

The latest request from Congress comes after over 30,000 Trump supporters descended on Capitol Hill to riot and loot the Senate building. Multiple people were arrested, many were injured and 5 were killed, including a U.S. Capitol Police Officer.

Flags have been ordered to be flown at half-staff in honor of Officer Brian Sicknick and his service to the U.S. Capitol.
