Early morning runs have a surreal element to them, especially in October. It could be breathing in cold air for the first time after a long hot summer. Or it’s the sight of the silver moon on one side of the sky and the sun flooding the horizon with pinks and blues on the other.
I’ll go out for a walk and my tread slowly builds into a sprint. Fall runs are somehow calming and energizing at the same time— I wish it could be this way year-round! But then I guess, it wouldn’t be special.
The coronavirus pandemic has forced a lot of popular races to be canceled out of concerns about social distancing and the uncomfortableness of running with masks.
However, the race must go on! It’s no surprise — just like with everything else during the pandemic — virtual runs are gaining popularity this year.
There’s something exciting about working up to the big Race Day and getting a t-shirt and medal to show off on social media for your effort. Of course, the best part about virtual runs are you get to pick your own time and location.

It’s the organization’s first-ever virtual walk. The walk is free, and you can participate from wherever is most convenient for you — be it a neighborhood park or your favorite trail or woods.
