The internet is in shambles after legendary comedian Luenell and R&B icon Al B. Sure announced they were madly in love. The two went public with their relationship on social media annoucing that after a decade of knowing each other they have decided to take their friendship to the next level.

The news left social media in shambles, with many wondering if the relationship was a publicity stunt or AI.

But Luenell and Al weren’t letting the chatter run the narrative. They jumped in the comments and addressed the backlash in a joint video, with Luenell saying, “People can’t understand why he chose me. Not that we really need to clear anything up, but I think people feel I’m unworthy of you, darling.” Then the two sealed it with a passionate kiss, and Al followed up with a soft-boy declaration: “I love you. I honor you, my boo boo kitty.”

From the outside looking in, they might seem like an unlikely match, but the chemistry in their responses made one thing clear: they’re standing ten toes down on this.

So why all the hate?

Is it that Lunell is larger than size as opposed to Al’s previous relationships especially his high profile marriage to the legendary model Kim Porter. Or is it hard to believe that a loud mouth comedian would not be attractive to a sexy singer and songwriter.

But lets break it down. She’s been commanding stages for over two decades, building a career off raw talent, sharp wit, and an unshakable presence. She’s worked major rooms, landed big Netflix specials, and stayed visible in comedy and entertainment. At this point, she’s a vet in the game, and honestly, she may be more recognizable in today’s mainstream conversation than Al B. Sure.

And while Al B. Sure! has a catalog of hits that helped shape an era, he hasn’t been in the spotlight the same way in recent years. He’s also publicly credited Luenell with being in his corner, especially during a serious health situation that reportedly impacted his mobility. That kind of loyalty hits different, and it’s not something you can fake for the timeline.

What’s wild is how quickly some women were ready to drag Luenell instead of cheering her on. A chunk of the criticism wasn’t even subtle, people hinted that Al must be broke, that he’s using her, or that she’s being set up as a caregiver instead of a partner.

And that right there is the bigger issue.

Because if your first instinct is to believe a woman like Luenell can’t be genuinely loved, desired, and chosen, then the problem isn’t her relationship. The problem is your understanding of love.

Will Luenell and Al stand the test of time? We’ll have to see. But the idea that she has to “prove” she’s worthy of love is real clown behavior. There’s someone for everyone, and we are all worthy of love and companionship. Period.
