Actor Erron Jay turns kidney transplant journey into powerful advocacy with ‘12N12’ Campaign

In 2021, actor and men’s health advocate Erron Jay faced a life-altering diagnosis: Stage IV renal failure. A successful kidney transplant saved his life—and now, he’s using that second chance to inspire others to do the same for someone else.
With the launch of 12N12, a grassroots awareness campaign, Jay is calling attention to the critical need for living kidney donors, especially among men of color. The name “12N12” stands for 12 donors in 12 months, reflecting the campaign’s core mission: to inspire at least a dozen men to become living kidney donors by the end of 2026.
“The generosity of a living kidney donor extended and transformed my life,” Jay shared. “12N12 is built on that gratitude. It’s about visibility, education, and encouraging men—especially Black men—to consider making a selfless decision that could save a life.”
Jay’s personal story is both sobering and inspiring. With support from close friends and industry colleagues—including Zendaya, Cedric the Entertainer, Lena Waithe, and Yvette Nicole Brown—his health crisis quickly became public. That visibility led to a chain of events culminating in a kidney exchange and a life-saving transplant. Although his high school friend who volunteered wasn’t a perfect match, her donation helped Jay receive a compatible kidney through the national exchange program.
While thousands of people are added to the kidney transplant list each year, the number of living donors remains disproportionately low among certain communities. As of 2024, over 97,000 people were on the transplant waiting list in the U.S., but only 48,000 transplants occurred. And among living donors:
Just 7.3% were African American
Only 35% were men
Jay believes education and storytelling are key to shifting these numbers. That’s why
12N12 isn’t just about raising awareness—it’s about mobilizing action.
Throughout 2026, the 12N12 campaign will roll out a series of initiatives including:
Social media challenges and shareable digital content
Personal testimonials from donors and recipients
Educational resources that demystify the donor process
Partnerships with medical professionals and advocacy groups
Each month will spotlight a specific theme and call to action aimed at breaking down barriers and encouraging more men to get involved.
“This isn’t about pressure,” Jay emphasized. “It’s about compassion, facts, and creating space for men to make informed decisions.”
Erron Jay’s acting career spans television, film, and stage, with credits in Disney’s “KC Undercover”, Netflix’s “Lucifer”, “No Good Nick”, VH1’s Famous Crime Scenes, and “2 Lava 2 Lantula”. But he considers this campaign one of his most meaningful roles yet.
Jay hopes that by December 31, 2026, at least 12 men will be fully registered and approved as living kidney donors. But he’s clear: even one life saved would make it all worth it.

Erron Jay’s 12N12 isn’t just a campaign—it’s a call to action rooted in hope, gratitude, and the power of giving life.
