The Harris County Clerk’s Office (HCCO) is hosting its Fifth Annual Back-to-School Birth Certificate Event on Saturday, August 2. The event will take place at the North Shepherd Annex, located at 7300 N. Shepherd Dr., TX 77091. This initiative aims to help families obtain the birth certificates necessary for school registration. Thanks to generous donations, the first 100+ people in line will receive birth certificates free of charge, while additional birth certificates will be available for $23 each.

Since the event’s launch in August 2021, HCCO has actively partnered with key leaders and organizations within the Harris County community to assist hard-working families, many of whom are unable to visit HCCO offices during regular hours.

This year, HCCO is collaborating with Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia, Texas 29th Congressional District; Annette Ramirez, Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar; Judge Eric William Carter, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 1; Judge Kyle Carter, 125th District Court; Children’s Museum Houston; Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast; Oasis Funeral & Cremations; Farah Law; Houston Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and the Alpha Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in partnership with Alpha Merit Group Educational Foundation, Inc.

“This initiative showcases public service in action,” said Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth. “These invaluable partnerships significantly impact families in need of back-to-school supplies.”

HCCO provides a short-form birth certificate that is acceptable for school enrollment. To purchase a birth certificate copy, a person must:
