Nearly 30 years after the original sitcom Martin concluded, a spinoff titled Varnell Hill has been greenlit by BET+. The new series will star Tommy Davidson as the titular character, a late-night talk show host who made a memorable appearance in Martin‘s second season.

The show will focus on Varnell’s efforts to stay relevant in the evolving media landscape and will depict behind-the-scenes drama involving network executives, stakeholders, and creative teams.

Martin Lawrence, co-creator of the original series, is involved as an executive producer alongside Bentley Kyle Evans, who will also serve as the showrunner.

Promising a unique mix of satire, humor, and creative storytelling—complete with cutaways and fourth-wall breaks—the spinoff aims to appeal to both new viewers and longtime fans.

While it’s unclear if Lawrence will reprise his role as Martin Payne, the show is set to feature a blend of new characters and nostalgic cameos. The announcement follows a recent reunion of the original Martin cast at the Emmys and marks a significant return to a beloved TV universe.
