Pickleball just got a major upgrade. On May 1, Solarium, Houston’s stylish new destination for racket sports, food, and cocktails, officially opens in Midtown — blending social sports with the kind of luxury you’d expect from a private country club.

Located at 820 Holman St., Solarium reimagines the recreational sports scene with 9,000 square feet of high-end hospitality, complete with a multi-level lounge, indoor-outdoor glass bar, VIP court-side bays, and an elevated all-day menu.

The new concept is brought to life by Rex Hospitality Group—the team behind MAVEN Coffee + Cocktails—in partnership with hospitality innovators The Kirby Group. Together, they’ve transformed the former Holman Draft Hall into a playground where racket sports meet refined dining and design.

“Solarium is more than your standard recreational sports facility – it’s a place where sport, social connection, and luxury seamlessly come together,” said Nina Quincy, president of Rex Hospitality Group.

At the heart of Solarium is its signature glass-enclosed indoor/outdoor bar, surrounded by natural textures and colors: velvet chairs, rich woods, Rolex green accents, and sleek industrial steel. The vibe strikes a balance between upscale lounge and lively social hub.

The Courts—Solarium’s outdoor complex—feature four pickleball courts and two padel courts, framed by private VIP bays made from repurposed shipping containers. Each bay offers air-conditioned comfort, private food and drink service, and glass-fronted views of the games. There’s also a pro shop on-site for equipment rentals, snacks, and coffee, with an overhead walkway giving guests a bird’s-eye view of the action.

Menus bring a creative twist to clubhouse favorites:

  • Bang bang shrimp, empanadas, truffle grilled cheese, and house burgers headline the food lineup.
  • A brunch menu delivers weekend crowd-pleasers like shrimp and grits, Belgian waffles, and shakshuka.
  • Back Court Desserts satisfy the sweet tooth with options like a build-your-own sundae or caramelized apples with lemon sabayon.

Cocktails are equally inventive, with signature drinks like a citrus vodka/cherry aperitivo spritz and a pandan-infused grape highball, alongside classics like carajillos, old fashioneds, and margaritas. Frozen drinks, spritzes, and zero-proof options round out the bar offerings.

Court pricing is flexible:

  • Pickleball courts range from $10 to $30.
  • Padel courts range from $20 to $40.
Reservations are available online or at the pro shop.

Solarium opens daily at 9 a.m. for court play, with the restaurant opening at 11 a.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. on weekends for brunch.
