Ryan Coogler’s latest film, Sinners, has made a significant impact at the box office, earning $45.6 million domestically in its opening weekend and an additional $15.4 million internationally, totaling approximately $61 million worldwide. This performance surpassed expectations and outpaced Warner Bros.’ own A Minecraft Movie, which garnered $41.3 million in its third weekend.
The film’s success is notable for an original, director-driven project in a market often dominated by franchise titles. With a production budget of $90 million, Sinners has demonstrated strong appeal, particularly among Black audiences, who comprised 49% of the U.S. viewership.
Critically, Sinners has been well-received, boasting a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and earning an “A” CinemaScore.
In a unique agreement with Warner Bros., Coogler secured a share of the film’s gross revenue before studio profits, along with creative control and future ownership rights after 25 years, underscoring the film’s themes of Black ownership and Coogler’s growing influence in Hollywood.
Sinners is now playing in theaters nationwide.
