In a significant legal development, Houston attorney Tony Buzbee has filed a civil lawsuit accusing renowned music moguls Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping a 13-year-old girl at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, alleges that the incident occurred on September 7, 2000, in New York City.

According to the lawsuit, Jane Doe claims she was offered a drink at the party that left her feeling “woozy” and “lightheaded.” Seeking to rest, she went to a bedroom where Jay-Z and Combs allegedly entered, with Combs reportedly stating, “You are ready to party!” The suit alleges that Jay-Z then removed her clothes and raped her while Combs and an unidentified female celebrity observed. Subsequently, Combs allegedly raped her as Jay-Z and the woman watched.

Jay-Z has vehemently denied the allegations, describing them as a “blackmail attempt” orchestrated by attorney Tony Buzbee. In a statement, he expressed his determination to expose what he considers fraudulent claims and emphasized the emotional toll on his family, particularly his wife, Beyoncé, and their children. He urged the accuser to file a criminal complaint if the allegations were genuine, stating, “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?”

Combs’ legal team has also dismissed the accusations, labeling them as “shameless publicity stunts” aimed at extracting payments from celebrities. They expressed confidence that the truth will prevail in court, asserting that Combs “never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor.”

This lawsuit adds to Combs’ existing legal challenges. He is currently detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting a May 2025 trial on separate sex trafficking and racketeering charges, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

Attorney Tony Buzbee, known for representing multiple plaintiffs in high-profile cases, responded on social media to Carter’s statement, saying that the alleged victim “never demanded a penny from him.”

Buzbee said of the victim, “She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”
