Megan Thee Stallion’s new Prime Video documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, has folks talking, and let’s just say the opinions are split! Released on October 31, the film digs into Meg’s rise to fame, her personal battles she’s been fighting, and the events around her and Tory Lanez’s shooting trial.

Directed by Nneka Onuorah, many fans have praised Megan’s vulnerability, seeing the documentary as an inspiring testament to her strength. Others, however, express dissatisfaction saying the documentary missed an opportunity to address lingering questions in greater detail.

Fueled in part by Megan’s admission in the documentary that she initially lied about her relationship with Canadian rapper Torey Lanez during a 2022 interview with Gayle King. Megan Thee Stallion explained that, at the time, she felt the nature of her relationship with Lanez was irrelevant to the shooting and that she was embarrassed by the question.

“Yes, b####, I lied to Gayle King,” Megan said in reference to the first interview. “First of all, I ain’t know that b#### was even finna ask me about that s###, b####. I thought we was gonna talk about the shooting. Why’d you ask me about f###### Tory?

She went on to explain that having sex with Lanez has nothing to do with him shooting her.

“That’s not what this is about. Even if I was, I f##### a n#### like once. Maybe twice on a drunk night, but you kept catching me out of my f###### mind … they get me off the g###### track. Like when they keep talking about the f###### part, and I find myself consumed in the f###### part. And I’m like, ‘Wait! This is not what this is about.’”

Canadian rapper Top5 was quick to come to Lanez defense after he caught wind of Meg’s response. He was quick to accuse Megan of lying about the shooting, and took to social media to express disbelief over Lanez’s 10-year sentence.

“The fact you lied on my brother and put him away from his family is so evil,” he shared on his Instagram Stories. “You male horse @megantheestallion.”

Top5’s comment sparked a lot of “Free Tory” posts and added fuel to the doubters’ fire with some even going as far as to demand that Megan be jailed for purgery.

Another key figure in the saga, Megan’s former friend and assistant Kelsey Harris, who took the stand in December 2022 but involved her Fifth Amendment rights so much it left people frustrated. Although she received immunity she didn’t exactly clear things up—she says she didn’t see Tory shoot Megan, and she shut down rumors she was involved.

Fast forward to this year, Kelsey spilled some tea on The Danza Project podcast, where she described the night of the incident, calling it a “destruction.” Harris suggested Megan’s personality changes when she drinks, hinting at the chaotic nature of that evening. “When it comes to a point where alcohol takes over, and you become a different person, it’s time to let that sh*t go.” Harris also suggested that there might be surveillance footage from that night, given the location in Hollywood, though no video evidence has publicly surfaced to substantiate her claims. As of now, there have been no public statements from Harris specifically addressing Megan’s recent documentary.

If you haven’t seen the documentary for yourself it is currently streaming on Prime Video. Whether it changes public opinion on the Tory Lanez case or solidifies it further remains to be seen, but the conversations sparked by the film underline the lasting impact of the events surrounding the doc and what may be to still yet to come.
