Applications are now open for the fourth annual Broadway Across America Apprenticeship in collaboration with the Black Theatre Coalition (BTC). Submissions will be accepted until October 18, 2024, for this 14-week paid opportunity, which begins in spring 2025. The apprenticeship aims to increase representation in American theater, focusing on applicants from historically underrepresented backgrounds who are passionate about the industry.
Broadway Across America Apprenticeship Program Overview
The Broadway Across America Apprenticeship starts with 13 weeks of hands-on learning at one of 13 BAA locations, including New York City, Atlanta, Boston, Houston, and Seattle. Participants explore various aspects of theater production, such as marketing, ticketing, business operations, and creative development. The program ends with a final week in New York City, where apprentices will network, gain practical experience, and attend Broadway shows.
Commitment to Diversity and Equity in Theater
Broadway Across America and the Black Theatre Coalition actively promote diversity in theater. According to Lauren Reid, President of the John Gore Organization, the apprenticeship has helped many early-career professionals launch successful careers in the industry. Meanwhile, BTC co-founders T. Oliver Reid and Warren Adams emphasize that the program offers vital experience for those traditionally excluded from theater.
Alumni Success Stories from the Broadway Across America Apprenticeship
Many alumni have advanced significantly in their careers, securing positions with prominent companies like Tony Awards Productions, Disney Yellow Shoes, and Daryl Roth Productions. Trey Robinson, Communications Coordinator for Broadway Across America, says the apprenticeship gave him valuable insights into the intricacies of the theater world, which shaped his professional journey.
