The Houston community is mourning the sudden death of renowned rapper and producer BeatKing. The 39-year-old artist, whose real name was Justin Riley, passed away Thursday after suffering a pulmonary embolism, according to a representative for the artist.
Funeral services for BeatKing will be held at the Bayou Event Center in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a balloon release to honor his memory.
According to TMZ, BeatKing was hosting a morning takeover at the Urban One/Radio One station when he suddenly fainted. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later passed away with his two daughters by his side.

The news of BeatKing’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the industry and among his fans. His girlfriend, Talameshia, broke her silence with a heartfelt tribute on social media. “Idk if this makes it real. Idk if this helps or hurts me. Idk what version of him everyone got. But I know I got to love laugh and live with the best version of him,” she wrote. “Over everything, he’s my Bestest friend. My BIGGEST supporter. He called me his Superstar. We prayed. We pranked each other. Literally was just two big ass kids.”
She continued, sharing her deep grief and the difficulty of processing the loss. “I haven’t been eating. And barely sleeping. I don’t know how I’m functioning. I’m crying because I know he was ready. He was happy. He was loved. This has to be the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Was watch you leave me. I fought and fought but GOD wasn’t letting up.”

In her tribute, Talameshia reflected on the bond they shared and the memories they created, concluding with, “I know you’re with your Mom, and finally moonwalking with our favorite, Michael Jackson… Until we meet again, Big Daddy.”
BeatKing’s representative also released a statement, expressing the deep sorrow felt by those close to him. “It is truly sad, we loved him so much,” the rep said. “He was the best part of the club for over a decade. He has produced and worked with so many artists that his sound will forever live. He loved his daughters, his music, and his fans. We will love him forever.”
Recently seen hanging out with Drake, it’s unclear if the two artists were collaborating on a project before his untimely death.
BeatKing’s legacy as a trailblazer in the Houston rap scene and a beloved figure in the community will undoubtedly live on through his music and the countless lives he touched.
