A jury has convicted Tory Lanez on all three charges in the shooting of Houston artist Megan Thee Stallion. It took the jury of seven men and five women a day and a half to deliberate, before handing down their guilty verdict Friday afternoon.

The Canadian rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was charged with three felonies: discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

The counts could lead to up to 22 years in prison and deportation.

According to court observers, the courtroom became chaotic after the verdict was read, with Lanez’s father and stepmother screaming of injustice.

His father, Sonstar Peterson, had to be removed from the room after leaping up and shouting, “This wicked system stands judged before God almighty!”

He then allegedly pointed to the prosecutors and yelled, “You two are evil, wicked people. You know exactly what you did.”

Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, is a Houston native and Texas Southern University graduate who has made a name for herself, not only because of her bold, unapologetic lyrics, but for her philanthropic efforts helping the less forturnate.

She has been a champion for helping seniors and children, with heavy focus on uplifting women and fighting for equality.

The case surrounding the shooting has driven a wedge between social media users, with many feeling that she was being unfairly targeted and discounted simply because she is a Black woman.

It is known that Black women have been the least supported and protected during domestic violence situations and violence as a whole.

In this particular case with Lanez, Megan testified that he shot at her feet after they got into a verbal dispute while riding in a car in the Hollywood Hills.

She said, after she insulted his music, it became violent.

Lanez reportedly fired a gun, shouting for her to “dance,” as she was walking away from an SUV. She had to have surgery to remove bullet fragments.

During the trial, Lanez’s defense lawyer argued the shots were actually fired by Megan’s then-best friend, Kelsey Harris, in a jealous fight over him. They said he was an innocent man who was simply trying to de-escalate the altercation between the two women.

Prosecutors said that was completely false.

“Why would she lie?” Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said. “She’s been subjected to a stream of hate. For what? For coming forward as a victim of domestic violence?”
