Mayor Sylvester Turner and Reliant will kick-off the holidays with one of Houston’s favorite family events of the season, Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, December 3, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The FREE event in Hermann Square at City Hall will feature live music and performances, the lighting of the holiday tree, free photos with Santa in his North Pole-themed booth and other festive activities for all ages.

“The Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular is one of my all-time favorite events, and I look forward to it each year,” said Mayor Sylvester Turner. “We love being able to offer such an amazing celebration to Houston families for FREE thanks to Reliant and all of our generous sponsors.”

Global star and Grammy winner, Gloria Gaynor, will headline the event featuring hit songs that have spanned the last five decades, including “I Will Survive,” “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and “Reach Out, I’ll Be There.” Released in 1978, “I Will Survive” quickly became the anthem of the disco craze and was adopted by generations of Americans as their personal anthem of defiance and survival.

Gloria has channeled her fame and recognition into support of several charities, donating not only her money but also her time and talent. In 2017, Gloria re-wrote “I Will Survive” to “Texas Will Survive,” offering encouragement to all those affected by Hurricane Harvey. She continues to tour the world with her band performing in the USA, Europe, South America and beyond.

“The holidays are a joyful time and coming together with one another – as family, friends, and a community – is a big part of what makes this season so special,” said Elizabeth Killinger, president, Reliant. “We’re once again thrilled to present this year’s Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular to our hometown of Houston, which is sure to brighten the season for Houstonians of all ages.”

Additional performances will include Houston Contemporary Dance Company, Parker Elementary Strings, Dance of Asian America, and Ernest Walker and the Official Holiday Band. Reliant will distribute free blinking Santa hats to all attendees, while supplies last. The Gingerbread Village, sponsored by Raising Cane’s, will have complimentary samples as well as seasonal food and beverages for sale.

Now more than ever, we want to inspire hope in our city this holiday season.
