Smoke, fire and cries for accountabilty are continuing to rise as Kanye West’s controversial statements about George Floyd has led to a $250 million lawsuit.

On Tuesday, action was taken against West on behalf of his daughter, Gianna, who attorneys say is the sole beneficiary of Floyd’s estate.

Roxie Washington, acting on behalf of her minor child, has exclusively retained The Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys At Law to file the lawsuit against West, who now goes by the name of “Ye,” in addition to his business partners and associates for harassment, misappropriation, defamation and infliction of emotional distress.

Attorneys for the Floyd family have also issued a cease-and-desist letter to West for his comments about the former Houston resident whose 2020 death at the hands of Minneapolis police sparked a worldwide outcry against police brutality.

In the words of his daughter, who was only 6 years old at the time, “my daddy changed the world.”

In March 2020, the world was heartbroken after video was released of then- Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes as the unarmed Black man pleaded for his life, saying he could not breathe and calling for his deceased mother. Onlookers begged for mercy from Chauvin and three other officers who were assisting Chauvin to release the man who was dying before their eyes.

West appeared hell bent on debunking those accounts in an interview on the popular podcast “Drink Champs.”

While praising the documentary made by conservative pundit Candace Owens titled, “The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM,” West said that Floyd actually died from fentanyl poisoning, and not what the world saw with their own eyes. West said that Chauvin did not have his knee on Floyd’s neck, even though the video, witness accounts and prosecutors proved otherwise, hence leading to Chauvin and the other officers being found guilty of various offenses. In what some would call “adding insult to injury,” West said that Floyd was not calling for his mother, he was actually calling for a girlfriend.

The host, N.O.R.E., is coming under intense scrutiny for not steering the interview in another direction, and admittedly, not even challenging West’s statements until more than two hours into the interview.

The full interview has since been removed from Youtube and Revolt TV, but clips of the rapper’s rant continue to be shared on social media platforms by millions across the globe.

A press release distributed by attorneys stated that, during that interview, West made blatant false statements about Floyd’s death to promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners and associates. They further stated that West made malicious falsehoods about Floyd to profit from the horrendous death and his family’s trauma.

This type of negative attention has, according to attorneys, affected Floyd’s young daughter.

“The interests of the child are priority. George Floyd’s daughter is being retraumatized by Kanye West’s comments and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her,” said Attorney Nuru Witherspoon, partner at the Witherspoon Law Group.

Pat D. Dixon, III, partner at Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law, said that West’s comments are “a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death.”

Dixon went on to say they are aiming to hold West accountable for the flagrant remarks made against Floyd’s legacy.

The release stated that Free Speech Rights do not include harassment, lies, misrepresentation and misappropriation.

“Some words have consequences and Mr. West will be made to understand that,” said attorney Kay Harper Williams, partner at The Witherspoon Law Group.

Attorney Roland Witherspoon, of The Witherspoon Law Group, summed it up. “As the intellectual property litigator on the team, George Floyds daughter’s rights will be protecte and enforced through all available legal remedies.”

West’s statements, made on behalf of and for the benefit of himsels, his business partners, and associates, are incredibly harmful to George and Roxie’s daughter and damaging to the Floyd estate.
