Here is something that many are calling downright despicable.

A mother of two young Black girls is calling out Sesame Place Philadelphia after she says her daughters were intentionally dismissed by a performer who was dressed as one of Sesame Street’s groundbreaking characters.

In the now viral video posted Saturday on Instagram, two little Black girls are seen happily reaching out to the character Rosita, who is the first bilingual muppet on Sesame Street.

But the video appears to show that the performer, who reportedly interacted with other children, shook her head “NO” in the direction of the Black girls, and walked right past them.

The children’s mother captured the footage and put it immediately on social media, calling the person in the costume DISGUSTING, while also claiming that the character hugged a white girl next to them, ignoring her children.

Sesame Place Philadelphia released a statement in an attempt to set the record straight.

They said the costumes its performers wear “sometimes make it difficult to see at lower levels” and that sometimes “performers miss hug requests from guests.” They also shot down the notion that the performer gestured “No” to the Black children.

Sesame Place offered its apologies to the family and and invited them back for a special meet-and-greet opportunity with the characters. They released a statement saying they would have training with its employees.

Well, Black Twitter, as the say, AIN’T BUYING IT and neither is the mother, who called Sesame Place’s apology “disrespectful and distasteful.”
