21 Black women-led organizations are to receive $1.05 million in grants, provided by the Black Future Co-op Fund, the first Black women-led philanthropy group in Washington state. The financial assistance, labeled as the “We See You” grants, are the Black Future Co-op’s way of supporting Black women who are dedicated to serving the Black community.

According to the Black Future Co-op, each of the 21 organizations will receive $50,000 in unrestricted funds, without the extra hassle that accompany many Black women-led organizations trying to apply for funding.

“The ‘We See You’ grants illustrate our confidence in women who lead, but often do not receive adequate support to do the excellent work they envision for our communities,” says Andrea Caupain Sanderson, Fund architect and CEO of Byrd Barr Place. “This is about helping our people and organizations across the state be self-determined, to own our own stories, to reframe the narratives about us.”

The Black Future Co-op Fund was founded in the summer of 2020, at a time where the Black community started looking for solutions to support each other. The mission of the fund is to support and empower Black organizations that “ignite Black generational wealth, health and well-being.”
