Maya Angelou becomes first Black woman on a quarter, social media has mixed feelings

The United States mint began circulating a new quarter on Tuesday featuring the late poet, memoirist, and Civil Rights activist Maya Angelou. Angelou is the first Black woman to be honored on a quarter.
While many on social media celebrated history-making event, many others, specifically Twitter users found the act to be another ploy by the U.S. government to pacify the Black community with meaningless representation.
Maya Angelou’s image is on the back of a coin that still features a slaveowner on the front. Huh.

Maya Angelou on a coin doesn’t buy us a remedy against racial oppression. It buys THEM more time…
On one hand, it’s true that the government and politicians from the Democrat and Republican parties use whatever means necessary to pacify the Black community by using false “representation”, or acts that have nothing to do with real progress and ending racial and economic injustice.
On the other, sometimes it’s good for the Black community to have one of our own, someone who’s contributed so much to American literature and has saved and guided many lives with her words and has overcome a great deal of obstacles, honored for generations to see.
What are your thoughts on Maya Angelou being featured on the quarter?
