Continued prayers are going out for our beloved Jesse Jackson Sr. and his wife, Jacqueline, who are both on the mend as they recover from COVID 19.

One of their sons, Jonathan Jackson, released a statement updating the public on the couple’s progress.

“Our mother is leaving the Northwestern Memorial Hospital and coming home. Our family is grateful to God and the medical team that treated her and that is allowing her body to continue to heal from the Covid-19 virus,” the statement read.

The statement also confirmed that Rev. Jackson, 79, was continuing to receive care at the hospital.

“Our father remains at The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab where he is continuing to receive intensive occupational and physical therapy,” Jonathan Jackson said. “We urge all who have not yet been vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus to do so immediately.”

Jesse Jackson Jr., another son, posted photos and messages on social media saying his dad was Covid negative, and also made a special request of him.

His Facebook post read, “Dad said ‘I am getting up.’ ‘I want to walk again, and I want you to give me a shave.’ Then he said, ‘cut my mustache off.’ Then I did. This is the first time in 56 years, I have ever seen him.”

One photo shows the civil rights icon walking the halls of the hospital facility – where is also being monitored due to his Parkinson’s disease. Other photos show the reverend’s face “lathered up” as his son takes care of his grooming needs. We then, just like Jackson Jr., see the reverend bare-faced, without his signature mustache.

The couple was hospitalized last month at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago. The reverend received his first Covid-19 vaccine dose in January at an event to promote African American confidence in vaccinations.

Even though the Jacksons were fully vaccinated, they fell into the category of “breakthrough cases” in which vaccinated people can still be infected. The older population and those who are immunocompromised are at greater risk of becoming a breakthrough case, health officials said. Rev. Jackson is 79 years old and Jacqueline Jackson is 77.

Keep fighting Rev, you got this!
