This past year witnessed a public feud between the United Kingdom’s Royal family, but the birth and naming of Prince Harry and Meghan’s baby girl, Lilibet Diana, acts as an olive branch.
The press secretary for Harry and Meghan stated that Lilibet was born Friday morning at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces.
“It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world,” the statement said. “Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”
Lilibet is the affectionate nickname given to the Queen of England from her grandfather, King George V, when she was a young girl and could not properly pronounce her name. Lilibet’s middle name, Diana, pays homage to her late beloved grandmother Diana, Princess of Wales.
Lilibet Diana is eighth in line for the throne and is a dual citizen of both the US and the UK.
Pictures of the new infant have not been released at this time.
