You read the title. That’s right folks, Shaqir O’Neal, son of basketball Hall of Famer, Shaquille O’Neal, will be joining the mighty Texas Southern University Tigers next basketball season.

The high school shooting guard announced his decision via Instagram in a post that contained a drawing of the young O’Neal in a Texas Southern University basketball jersey.

“I just wanted to change the narrative of culture and do something new. A lot of people will follow me,” said Shaqir in an interview with the digital sports network, Overtime.

Shaqir said to expect “a lot of buckets” next season and that he plans on following in his father’s footsteps to play for the NBA.

The O’Neals and head basketball coach of TXSU Johnny Jones have a long history. Jones was an assistant coach at LSU when Shaq played for the Louisiana Tigers. Jones played collegiate basketball at LSU and later became the head coach of the team.

Shaqir O’Neal stands six-foot-six and is a 3-star recruit, ranked 275th in the nation, according to CBS Sports.
