The city of Houston and Mayor Sylvester Turner held a swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed HPD Chief Troy Finner.

Turner addressed the audience and congratulated Finner.

“I look forward to working with you very closely and your department in the best interest of everyone in the city of Houston,” said Turner. “As much as this is a very special day for chief Troy Finner, it is a very special day for the city of Houston.”

Former Chief Art Acevedo also gave a word of support to Finner via social media.

“I love @TroyFinner and @MattSlinkard like brothers. I wish Chief Finner, Executive Chief Slinkard, and our extended @houstonpolice family continued success. Thank you @SylvesterTurner, City Council, and our department director family for a great run. God Bless Houston & Texas!” he wrote.

Finner graciously accepted his position, sharing his hopes for the city of Houston and his plans for the community.

“I thank God for today and this community. I’m excited. Yes, it’s a lot of crime out there but you know what, I’ve never walked away from a challenge in my life,” said Finner. “We are going to do it together but it’s time to listen and go to work.”

We look forward to seeing how Finner will transition into his new role.
