The Virginia Beach community is calling for justice after video surfaced on social media showing a Black man being wrongfully detained at a mall food court.

In the now viral video, a man can be seen enjoying a meal with his family inside the food court when officers walk up and begin to handcuff him.

The man and a woman, who is recording the incident, can be heard asking officers why he was being detained, but the officers proceeded to escort the man out with no explanation.

It was later learned the man “fit the description” of a potential suspect.

WARNING: GRAPHIC LANGUAGE

“We got a description that someone was using stolen credit cards and that person was a Black man with dreads, and was wearing all black and was with a boy that was wearing red,” the officer explained.

The officer apologized on video, but the African American community is saying it’s not enough.

WARNING: GRAPHIC LANGUAGE

“Certainly, anyone would be upset about being detained for something they didn’t do,” Police Chief Paul Neudigat responded. “While the video shows the officer stayed calm and respectful throughout the brief encounter, we must ensure the situation merits the response. We are gathering all the facts to evaluate the incident so we can address the concerns people have raised.”

Just another Black man arrested for no other reason than being Black. The fight for equality continues.
