After years of interviews and trying to clear her name, our favorite TV sitcom mom is finally getting her flowers and, we must say, it’s about damn time!

“Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star Janet Hubert was able to sit down with her TV nephew and the Fresh Prince himself, Will Smith, and speak her truth during the 30-year reunion special on HBO.

Smith opened the floor by talking with his castmates about the so-called “elephant in the room” before cutting to a pre-recorded interview with him and Hubert.

“So, as a family we have our things that we talk about and then we have our things that we don’t talk about,” said Smith in a slightly awkward transition. “We, um, never really, together, like publicly talk about, um, Janet. And what happened. And, for me, it felt like I couldn’t celebrate 30 years of Fresh Prince without finding a way to celebrate Janet.”

Hubert wasted no time getting to the point, moving past the “hello” greetings to a long-awaited answer.

“I just wanted to know one thing: Why?” asked Hubert “You guys went so far. I lost so much. How do we heal that?”

Hubert has been very critical of Smith over the years, even going as far as calling him egotistical in her 2009 Memoir “Perfection Is Not a Sitcom Mom.”

“I was 21 years old,” explained Smith. “Everything was a threat to me.”

But Hubert still wasn’t done, telling Smith that his actions changed the trajectory of her career in Hollywood.

“You took all of that away from me – with your words. Words can kill. I lost everything. Reputation. Everything. And I understand you were able to move forward, but you know those words, calling a Black woman “difficult” in Hollywood, is the kiss of death,” Hubert said. “And it’s hard enough being a dark-skinned Black woman in this business.”

And then there’s closure…

After the two stars were able to hear each other’s side of the story, Hubert took the high road and apologized for flinging insults in the press, and Smith celebrated Hubert for the “authenticity and dignity” that she brought to the sitcom.

After 30 years, it’s amazing that these two could come together and wave the white flag of peace.

If you missed the reunion, you can still stream it on HBO or on Demand.
